FAQs

The VIP was introduced to strengthen volunteer safety and effectiveness by requiring regular background checks, multiple references, and staff interaction before service. It ensures that volunteers agree with the Christian Community Statement, provides clearer role expectations and training, and supports the “FCA for Life” strategy, fostering long-term ministry involvement through high-quality volunteers.

  • How much time will it take me to complete the qualification process?

There are several stages to the qualification process, as the volunteer will need to complete additional training and screening procedures. The question/application portion is estimated to take 45-60 minutes to complete. Additional time needed will depend on the complexity and number of qualifications required for the specific role the volunteer is applying for.

  • Who is responsible for the costs of the background checks for volunteers?

FCA will pay for all level one (standard) background checks.

  • Will volunteers need to go through the entire process from scratch when their background check needs to be renewed?

No. The portal will save and maintain any unexpired qualifications so the volunteer is only asked to update anything that has expired. Background checks will need to be completed every 2 years. Volunteers will be asked to update their contact information each year. In addition, they will be asked to reaffirm their position on the Christian Community Statement each year, just as staff are required.
